My Music Ministry Story:
I came to faith at 31 in the most unexpected, beautiful way—through the power of worship and praise in a little church tucked away in a small California town.
A family member invited me one Sunday. I showed up. Then I came back the next week… and the week after that. By my fifth visit, something shifted deep inside. The music, the words, the presence of God—it all broke through. Right there, in that humble sanctuary, I gave my life to the Lord. My walk with Him began that day.
Almost immediately, the path took a joyful turn I never saw coming. Within weeks of being saved, I joined the music ministry. For the next 20 years or so (out of my 33+ years following Jesus), I played Latin percussion—congas, bongos, timbales, you name it—for services in many churches we attended.
Worship became my heartbeat. I fell in love with how the Word of God comes alive when wrapped in praise—how lyrics and rhythms can carry truth straight to the soul. Over the years, my musical tastes grew wonderfully eclectic: from soaring anthems to intimate acoustic moments, from traditional hymns to contemporary streams, even some global flavors. But one standard never budged: every song had to glorify God. If it didn’t honor Him, if it turned the spotlight anywhere else, it felt empty—idle noise that couldn’t touch my heartstrings or draw me closer to the Creator.
These days, my wife (my wonderful better half) and I still chase that same connection. We soak in His presence through music that lifts our eyes upward, quiets our hearts, and reminds us who He is.
So here’s a little taste of the worship mix that still stirs our souls. I pray these songs meet you right where you are—drawing you deeper into the presence of the One who loves you beyond measure. Let the music wash over you, point you to Jesus, and fill your heart with genuine praise.
